Background Information
Johannes Gutenberg
Johannes Gutenberg invented mechanical movable-type printing in Europe in the mid-15th century (1450s). The very first book printed by Gutenberg was the Bible. A printing press is a machine on which metal type is organized against a flat surface. Paper is placed against the type, and another flat surface or heavy cylinder is pressed against the paper, resulting in the type imprinting onto the paper surface.
Printing is the technique of applying ink to a solid surface and then pressing it to paper (or a similar surface), leaving an image on the paper. Printing can be used to transfer either text or images to paper.
The invention of the printing press was one of the most significant in history, as it increased the number of printed material and made the printed material cheaper and available to a big number of the population.
