what else was going on during this time
Important events other than the printing press also took place during the fifteenth and sixteenth century. One of these events, was the Reformation. The Reformation was the religious movement in the sixteenth century, to reform the Roman Catholic Church, and that led to the establishment of the Protestant churches. Martin Luther was a 16th-century German theologian who triggered the Protestant Reformation by demanding changes in the Catholic Church. Martin Luther wrote 95 theses, which were basically all the things Luther disliked about the church. Luther used the newly invented printing press to print copies of his 95 theses, and he nailed them on the door of the church. This was the spark of the protestant Reformation.
Also during this time period, there were a lot of new inventions. For example, in 1475, muzzle-loaded rifles were invented in Italy and Germany. In 1487, bell chimes were invented. In 1492, Leonardo da Vinci was the first to seriously theorize about flying machines, also in 1492 Martin Behaim invented the first map globe. Lastly, in 1494 whiskey was invented in Scotland.
Another event that occurred around this time frame, was the Renaissance. The Renaissance was known as the re-birth of art and literature. Artists learned new techniques of painting. One thing artists did, was they would more clearly define the characteristics of people in human portraits. Also, they learned to make three dimensional paintings rather than two dimensional. These techniques made paintings more lively and realistic.
